Matthew 24:32-35

“Learn this parable from the fig tree...” - Matthew 24:32a

You’re familiar with the seasons of Indiana, right? Winter, Fool’s Spring, Second Winter, Spring of Deception, Third Winter, The Pollening, Actual Spring... we’ve got to be getting close to Actual Spring at this point, right? Today’s passage reminds us of the cycle of seasons and the life that is reawakened at the start of Spring.

There’s a great book entitled “Spiritual Rhythm” by Mark Buchanan, and it teaches about the cycles of the spiritual life that are in tune with the cycles of the seasons. Spring is a perfect time for awakening, for spring cleaning, for dusting off our spiritual disciplines, and getting back into good habits.

The changing of the seasons also reminds us to continue to be alert to the world around us. This is the start of a series of lessons on being ready for the Kingdom of God – which is already at hand. What are we doing to pay attention to God’s work unfolding around us? How are we cultivating our faith so that we notice our own growth and opportunities to grow further? How do we respond faithfully to God’s movement in our lives?

All of which requires – paying attention and trusting that God will remain God to the end of time. - Allison
