Can every little, ordinary thing I do be a moment of connection with God? Really?

Well...maybe not everything.

Of all the habits and practices, mundane or pleasurable, there is only one practice where that doesn't hold true. (at least according to the Kabbalah, or Jewish spiritual practices.

It's the one where some read their daily devotional.

Interesting isn't it?

In the one place we may find a moment of solace, a quiet moment to reflect, may be too profane for God.

"When in the bathroom we are forbidden to say any words of Torah aloud or even to think any holy thoughts. We must not, even unconsciously, associate holiness with uncleanness and bad odors." (Buxbaum, Yitzhak. Jewish Spiritual Practices, Aronson, 1994)

I find this comical actually, yet I understand the sentiment. God is holy. This natural process not so much. At the same time, everybody does it. It's necessary!

I share this simply because out of everything humans do, only this one thing is set apart. Everything else, and I mean everything else (wink!) can be a holy, sacred moment giving glory to God, and bringing a blessing back to us.

Imagine every little action. God is present there, "closer than we imagine," as Brother Lawrence stated it. The difference between these ordinary things becoming extraordinary is simply our awareness in them.

One of my favorite words in Hebrew is "Shema." It's often translated as hear or listen, but can also mean "pay attention!"

I need that often...

...because Christ just wants to connect with me (with us) in every little thing!
